Pictures Worth a Thousand Words

If you want to see friendly dogs, cute puppies, and a couple of amusing pictures, just check out the portfolio of photos below, which I took at a Meet and Greet at Bark Avenue in Harleysville yesterday!  All the dogs are up for adoption, and they include the dogs who currently stay at Molly's Kennel, plus some pupsters that one volunteer is currently fostering.  This was the first time at Bark Avenue for our Meet and Greet, and we hope to have many more.  Because there were enough volunteers to take the Molly's dogs to the M and G, I went simply to take pictures.  Carol went with me, and she volunteered to help at future M and G's for Almost Home Dog Rescue.  Finally, she has become "official"!  In fact, she's at a M and G in Dresher, at PetValu today!  So congrats, Carol.

These dogs are wonderful, adoptable dogs, and well, the puppies are just too adorable for words!  Hence pictures, and few words.  Enjoy!

Cutie-Patootie Trudy!

Check out those ears!  They complement Trudy's big grin.  She's two years old, and enjoys being around people, kids and other dogs.  She's a little shy around cats, which makes her the perfect dog to enter into a family with cats.  She's a mere 30 pounds, but has a huge personality that is sure to warm your heart.  Trudy attended the Meet and Greet on Saturday, July 27th.  She is actively seeking her furever home.

You can check her out further by clicking on the Molly's Dogs link at the top right of this blog.

Cadbury's a Good Egg

Dear, sweet Cadbury -- a chocolate lab (probably a mix) lived up to her sugary name!  My nephew, Eric, and I picked up this chocolate treat yesterday in Center Valley.  Cadbury proved to be a dog who is a good egg about everything, and who lives to just be loved.

Cadbury, at about 50 pounds, was brought in as a stray in Marietta, Ohio.  Because she's so friendly and eager to please, she was selected to be transported alone, via individual drivers to PA.

Can't we just rest?
She arrived pretty tuckered out.  Eric took the leash while I collected the paperwork (vet records) that always accompanies the transported dogs.  Cadbury took to Eric right away (of course, who wouldn't?), but she wasn't all that interested in taking a walk in the heat of the day.  She'd already been walked by Steve, who brought her to Center Valley, so traipsing on after that just wasn't on her menu of treats.  So she and Eric hung out together, like two bars of Milky Ways.

Cadbury made the final decision and literally dragged Eric over to the grassy area, in the shade, where she plopped down to take a breather.  She drank a lot of water, but still her tongue hung out.

Taking a break
We were just glad we had a plan for her!  I can't candy-coat this story.  Earlier in the day, there had been some confusion about two potential adopters, and we all unknowingly were trying to communicate with the wrong person!  By 2:00, I was starting to think we just might be bringing Cadbury to my house for an overnight.  But things finally got straightened out, the right adopter was contacted, and we made our final arrangements on where she'd pick up her new bundle of chocolate joy.

Home at last.
So, we were off with Cadbury to take her to Shannon, her new mommy.  Cadbury rode well in the car, but happily disembarked when we arrived at our destination.  And speaking of disembarking, we never heard a sound from her.  No barking or whining.  Only lots of doggie kisses before we started out.

And here Cadbury is meeting Shannon!  You can see Cadbury is very affectionate.  She'd press right into you, which truly makes her so lovable.  There is nothing more rewarding in any of this than handing over a dog to its new furever parent.  Knowing their entire life is about to change makes me happier than eating M & Ms.  These special transport dogs melt my heart, not my hand!  Soon, Cadbury will be playing fetch, getting great meals and spreading her love all over the place.  Lucky Shannon.

Nothing Like a Car Ride and a Walk

Yesterday, Saturday, July 20th, my nephew, Eric, and I started out early to take Snickers (whom you read about last time) and Karma (also previously posted on underdog railroad) for a walk, just to get them out of Molly's Kennel for a little while.  We planned to get there right when they opened at 9:00 because the day was forecasted to be ungodly hot (again!) and quite humid.  We were pleasantly surprised that at least there was a breeze, and it didn't seem to be quite as hot as it had been during the week.  But it was still hot.  And we arrived later than our target time of 9:00.  I'd like to blame that on Eric, but alas, I can't.

Snickers (L) and Karma (R)
Linda had told me that Snickers loves to ride in the car and stick her head out the window, so when they settled in to the car for the short ride to the park, I rolled the window down.  Eric took this photo of both dogs happily taking in the sights and enjoying the fresh air.

Once we arrived at the park, both dogs drank some water, and then the tug-o-war...er, I mean, the walking began.  Both dogs were excited to be outside, and the park was chock-full of other people walking their dogs.  Snickers and Karma, being the friendly dogs they are, insisted on greeting any fellow canines who came along, so there was some tugging going on.  And lots of sniffing, and lots of inspections, and lots of tail-wagging, and lots of tongue hanging out, and lots of prancing, and lots of ears going up, and lots of sweat too.  But that was me and Eric, and no, our tongues were not hanging out.

Note: My Tongue is Not Hanging Out
We rested under the shade of a pavilion at one point, where Snickers enjoyed the coolness of the cement under her full fur coat.  Karma kept alert, just on the off chance another dog might walk by.  We had a nice little respite, and headed out again.

We ran into Colleen, who oversees the dogs at Molly's, who was out walking Reese (also posted on underdog railroad recently); she was happy to have so many Molly's dogs walked that morning.  She soon went on her way to return Reese and bring Trudy, another little cutie, to the park.  We met up with them a little later.  It was Trudy's first time at the park.  She and Karma seemed to hit it off right away.

Eric and I had places to go, people to see, and a dog, Cadbury, to transport in the afternoon, so we returned Snickers and Karma to Molly's.  They hung their heads out the window again on our way back.  Ah, fresh air.  It's gotta beat the kennel air!

Karma and I saluted the flag, and headed into Molly's, where it is air conditioned -- and of course, dinner is always served, so for Snickers and Karma, it's not so bad.  But they'd much rather be living with their furever family in a home.  They are both nice dogs, and I'm sure this will soon happen for both of them.

Dogs and Cats on Transport

Linda had a busy weekend, lucky dog!  She not only took Snickers to a Meet and Greet (see post below), but she drove dogs and cats today (Sunday).  So here goes.
Alice and Ashes

Meet Alice and Ashes.  These two cute cuddlers are on their way to an adopting family.  They are the luckiest ones, and their long trip was worth it.  Are they young siblings?  We'll never know.  But it sure looks like they are already friends and will enjoy their life together in their new home.

Augustine and Beckett
Augustine and Beckett, aren't quite as lucky, but still their future is much brighter than it was.  The tiger cat in the back is disabled due to abuse, and cannot walk.  But he got out of that awful situation and hopefully he'll find someone to give him love and affection in his new life.  The one thing we know for sure is that all the dogs and cats brought up here on these transports have a much brighter future than where they were in the south, and that makes everyone's efforts so worthwhile.  Augustine and Beckett are on their way to foster families.

Jovie
Little Jovie is on her way to One Life to Live in Scranton, where she will be well taken care of, gets lots of hugs, good meals and will soon be living with a foster family.  You can see she was enjoying being in the arms of this volunteer who handed her over to Linda.  Linda tells me there were more than 60 dogs on this transport!

Garrison
And finally, Linda drove Garrison, who really captured her attention.  He was a "love bug" and was also on his way to One Life to Live Animal Rescue in Scranton.  He was quite the gentleman as he rode politely in the back seat.

Snickers Sits for Snausages

Linda had the pleasure of spending time with Snickers yesterday, a beautiful collie/shepherd mix who is looking to spend her golden years with someone who will appreciate her sweet nature and gorgeous good looks.

Sitting down for treats

Snickers is currently staying at Molly's Kennels, so they started their day with a walk in the park.  Linda claims that Snickers would sit for treats, and although you and I probably think of "sitting for treats" as sitting up for treats, Snickers apparently thinks she simply has to sit down for treats, as evidenced by this picture.

From there, Linda and Snickers traveled to a Meet and Greet at Pet Valu in Dresher.  Snickers loves to have the wind blowing through her hair (as does Linda, by the way -- but that's a whole other story!).
Ah, wind -- sweet wind

Once they arrived at the Meet and Greet, Snickers made friends with a little guy, and they both sat for their treats.  I'd say this pup is being led astray by Snickers if he thinks sitting down for treats is the way to go.  But he's young, so hopefully he'll catch on that it's far better to sit up for delectable delights.

As you can see, Snickers is a beautiful dog who would make a wonderful companion for someone who would appreciate her little older age of about nine, her pretty coat, and her keen sense of humor.  After all, she snickers every time she convinces someone that all she has to do is sit down for those snausages.
