Bennie & the Jets, and Jake the Optimist

Bennie
B-b-b-Bennie and the Jets.  That's all I can think of when I hear that name -- Elton John's song entitled, "Bennie and the Jets".  Never did understand it, but it has a snappy little beat, as does sweet Bennie.  He's a 1 1/2 year old hound mix, and life has been a bit tough for dear Bennie.  He was adopted when he was only a few months old, but the family had no time for him.  He spent most of his days in the backyard by himself.  He's still very scared, now that he's arrived at Molly's Country Kennels under the tender loving care of the Almost Home Dog Rescue group and the staff of Molly's, but he has already started to relax and enjoy some attention.  He walks well on the leash, but he sticks very close, like Velcro.  He also hasn't ridden much in a car.  Bennie is cooling his jets at Molly's, and looks forward to finally getting a loving home.  He deserves far better than what he's had!

Jake
Jake, a 60 pound lab mix, is a victim of divorce.  His bio on Petfinder.com indicates that he's an optimist, sees the best in everyone, and is a happy boy.  He's one year old, and would love to be back in a home again with a family who sees things like he does.  In the meantime, he'll enjoy life and look forward to walks in the park, and going to Meet and Greets -- confident that someone will soon see his many virtues and welcome him into their happy home.  He promises he'll be a good dog, a good, good dog.

It Takes Two to Tango

Meet Tango, a lovable border collie (mix?).  Tango came up with brother, Cash, who has a foster home starting September 1st, which will hopefully turn into his permanent home.  So Tango is hoping he'll find his furever home soon too.

Carol and I took Tango on a stroll in the park yesterday.  He did extremely well on the leash, and was sweet and friendly.  Occasionally, he'd do the locomotion to go sniff something that had gotten his attention.  There are so many swell smells in the park, I'm sure.

But Tango was one well-behaved dog!  He knew how to sit when offered delicious treats, and waltzed beside me when not distracted.

The best part of Tango's dance, though, was when he found a partner, a boxer, who was also foxtrotting in the park.  Tango seemed anxious to make a new friend, and although I was hesitant as I wasn't sure how he would do with another dog, it soon became apparent that these two would make beautiful music together.

So Tango and this handsome boxer soon jived, and they had a ball jitterbugging as best they could in the constraints of their leashes.  Tango observed appropriate etiquette by bowing down playfully on his front legs when asking his new friend to rumba, and they soon broke into a friendly quickstep.

They continued their new friendship boogie for several minutes, and then we walked on together as a small group, with Tango snuffling out weird smells along the way, and the boxer cha-cha'ing along comfortably.

We finally bid Tango's newfound friend good-bye and mambo'd our way back to the car, where Tango lapped up lots of water, as it was a hot day.  But it was gratifying to see him enjoying himself, even if it was just a short dance.  Maybe next time, Tango will be ready to swing, and will mambo his way right into someone's heart and home.  I'd do the watusi in celebration!

Tidbits

Opie
Opie, our wonderful tripod, has a family interested in him!  He is currently staying with a temporary foster family until the interested family returns from their vacation. Keep your fingers crossed for this sweetheart of a dog.

Layla
Meet Layla, one of the latest additions to the Almost Home Dog Rescue adoptables.  She's a sweet 4-year old, medium-sized Australian cattle dog mix (maybe) who loves ear rubs.  She's smart, and knows how to sit, touch and lay down.  Her favorite pastime is playing with soft, squeaky toys, and she's a pleasure to walk.  Layla is quite social with people and will greet everyone she meets.  She knows her commands and loves riding in the car.  Layla does best with people, and would prefer a home with no other pets.  After all, she's top dog!

Opie's Special Story 2

Opie is a sweet lab who is about seven years old, and approximately 70 pounds.  Opie has had a tough time in life, and he's looking for someone to open their heart to him.  He had a tumor on his rear leg last year, and as a result, he lost his leg.  Three-legged dogs are often called "tripods".  Opie can, however, go on short walks and loves to be outside.  His original owner died suddenly shortly after Opie's leg was removed, and Opie found himself at a shelter.  Fortunately, he was transported to Pennsylvania and now needs a new foster home.

Opie in Dog Bed with Toys
Opie is currently at a foster home with four other dogs, but because of his special needs, he is hopeful that he'll find a forever family with no other pets (including cats) and no children under 12 years of age.  He can go up/down a few stairs, but really needs a single-level home.  Toys and his dog bed are Opie's favorite "things", as you can see by this photo, and his favorite pastimes are belly rubs and car rides.   He's a sweetheart of a guy, and he hopes to find his special someone soon.

Reese, with the Big Slurpy Kisses

Remember Reese?  Yep, that's him at the right.  And they say I don't take good photos!  Anyway, Reese has found a foster home, with a favorite playmate, Sammie.  Hopefully this will turn out to be Reese's furever home.  If Reese and Sammie have anything to say about it, he's already home.  Keep your fingers crossed for Reese!

Walk 'n Roll

Snickers
Yesterday, I had a little spare time, so I went to Molly's Country Kennel and took Snickers, the beauty queen, for a walk in the park.  She is such a beautiful dog, and is still looking for someone to appreciate her lovely qualities.  A young lady who works at Molly's told me that Snickers is her favorite.  I think that speaks volumes!

Karma
After taking Snickers back to Molly's, I then took Karma for a walk.  Karma has plenty of energy, and when we were approached by a couple who had two smaller dogs, Karma was more than ready to play with those two little guys.  She jumped for joy, and displayed all kinds of "let's play" behavior.  She was all tail-waggin' and smilin'.  I hope someone soon sees Karma's enthusiasm for life and decides to call Karma their own.  She's a low-maintenance dog, medium-size, with personality plus.
